Time to Repeal the 22nd Amendment which Limits Presidents to only Two Terms
What about a third term for President Trump? Shouldn't the voters have the chance to decide that?
A non-partisan initiative of the American System PAC, repeal22now.com is dedicated to repealing the 22nd Amendment. Once it's repealed, presidents will be able to serve as many terms as the American voters want them to.
We believe that with your help, we can get the two thirds of state legislatures that we need to call for a convention (per Article V of the U.S. Constitution) to repeal the 22nd Amendment.
It can be done - and more quickly than you might think. For example, in 1933, the 18th Amendment which prohibited alcohol was repealed in less than a year by the 21st Amendment.
Repealing the 22nd Amendment can happen before the 2026 mid-term elections!
The Deep State and the 22nd Amendment
In 1947, the bill calling for the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution was passed - restricting presidents to a maximum of two terms. That same Congress passed the National Security Act - the legislation that created the Central Intelligence Agency. In other words, in 1947, Congress also created the Deep State and the military/industrial complex.
This was not a coincidence.
The idea behind the 22nd Amendment was to weaken the strong presidency left by FDR. The permanent bureaucrats in Washington who control so much of America's government wanted to create a military-intelligence-cultural organization that would mold and warp the USA into a kind of police state run by a permanent oligarchy.
Founding Fathers Vigorously Debated Term Limits - and Said "No"
The Founders created a Constitution with no limit to how many terms a president can serve. Alexander Hamilton wrote an entire Federalist Paper about the question of presidential term limits and came out strongly against.
Research over the decades has proven Hamilton and the Founders were right. Studies show that term limits do not improve government effectiveness or promote democracy. In fact, quite the opposite—presidential term limits hamper efficient and representative government.
For example, currently, no sooner does a president get re-elected to a second term - he's called a "lame duck"! Many historians have noticed that presidents tend to accomplish less in their second term than in their first for precisely this reason.
Presidential term limits cause too much jockeying around for who's going to take power next, and not enough attention on achieving progress for the American people.
Putting an arbitrary maximum on how many times a president may serve - by design LIMITS how much a president can accomplish.
A Historic Mistake
It's time to admit the 22nd Amendment was a mistake.
It was passed in the aftermath of FDR's unprecedented four terms in office. President Franklin Roosevelt led us out of the Great Depression and guided the nation to victory in World War II--and he won free and fair elections four times in the process. During FDR's administration, America built the mightiest industrial economy the world had ever seen.
Why should a Constitutional Amendment prevent another generation-shaping President like an FDR, if that is the choice the voters wish to make?
Let's work together to overturn a historic mistake, for our own sake and for the benefit of future generations. Repeal the 22nd Amendment!
